Consultation

The Long-term Plan lays out the mahi (work) Council intends to do over the next 20 years. It details the planned activities, services and projects, how much things are likely to cost and how we plan to pay.

Consultation on the draft Long-term Plan 2021–41 closed 5pm, 10 May 2021.

  • Council adopted the final plan and set the rates for 21/22 on 24 June 2021.

Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Our direction
We are sticking with our vision agreed with the community in the last Long-term Plan. We have developed community outcomes to guide our response to our challenges and opportunities and contribute to our community’s wellbeing.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Investing for resilience and growth
A big part of this long-term plan is our proposed investment in our district’s infrastructure and facilities. The most significant way we can help our community recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 is to increase our work programme in the district.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Our big issues
These issues link strongly to our community outcomes and are major contributors to wellbeing. They are priorities we have identified as the most critical at this time, and reflect concerns and ideas raised through consultation with our community.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Key decision: Should we take a bigger role in housing?
Access to and affordability of housing have been identified as matters of serious concern in our district, and it's timely for Council’s role to be strengthened.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Key decision: Should we renew the Paekākāriki seawall a different way?
We have to repair the wall, but the costs for the current plan have increased significantly and we need to review our approach.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Key decision: Should we set up a council-controlled organisation (CCO)?
We want to set up a structure now to manage activities for the district in the future, including initiatives that could generate income to reduce our dependence on rates.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Key decision: Should we explore ways to have a role in the airport?
We know the airport is of high interest to our community, and we need to know if you'd like Council to explore how we could have a role.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Major projects and initiatives
In this Long-term Plan, we’ll do more work on projects we know are high priority for the community – like Waikanae Library and our stormwater upgrades – and we’ll get started on some new initiatives.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Rates
We outline how Council uses rates income and what the proposed Long-term Plan would mean for rates in 2021/22.
Ngā Kaupapa | What's On
Fees, charges and policy updates
We outline how Council uses rates income, what the proposed Long-term Plan would mean for rates in 2021/22 and explain the changes we propose to make sure our rating system is equitable and affordable for ratepayers.
