About the role
This is a pivotal role in shaping how we communicate and engage with our customers, key stakeholders and community.
You’ll partner effectively with group managers, managers, and project leads to provide high-quality strategic advice and hands-on support across a wide range of programmes and initiatives. You'll tackle complex communication challenges, develop smart engagement strategies, and ensure the delivery of clear, consistent, and impactful messaging that supports our strategic priorities and enhances our reputation.

You're a natural collaborator, strategic thinker, and confident communicator who can translate complexity into clarity. You thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy building strong relationships, and give thorough, objective and sound guidance and advice. You are ready to make an impact and lead communications efforts that inform, engage, and encourage people to take action.
You'll bring:

5+ years’ experience in a senior strategic communications, engagement, or public affairs role.

Proven ability to build trust and influence across all levels of an organisation.

Experience advising on communications, stakeholder engagement, and customer engagement activities.
-
Familiarity with IAP2 principles and frameworks.
-
Strong skills in media relations, crisis communications, and issues management.
-
Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with a sharp eye for detail.
-
Fresh ideas on how to engage communities in decision-making.
-
Resilience, independence, and comfort working under pressure with shifting priorities.
-
A growth mindset – including willingness to learn and adapt to AI and emerging technologies.

Political awareness and sound judgement in navigating the unique context of local government.
