Hub Lead Te Ara Whetū - Ref 597
Permanent – Full time
The opportunity | He angitūtanga
Waikanae’s most dynamic community facility is currently being built, and there’s a lot to do in advance of it opening in late 2026. We are seeking the right person to join us now, so that they can be involved in the preparation of the facility and then move into managing this community resource and the team working inside it.
The name Te Ara Whetū tells the story of the connection to the land, the sea and the sky and was gifted by Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai. Te Ara Whetū is designed to foster lifelong learning, promote literacy and digital skills and build community by providing an uplifting space with diverse resources. Books, tech, hireable meeting rooms, council services, as well as creative and event spaces will all be on offer. We are looking for a person who will ensure Te Ara Whetū is a Library Hub the community is proud of, and a place where everyone feels welcome and has a sense of belonging.
This person will have the commitment and drive to ensure Te Ara Whetū is a buzzing hive of activity. This will be achieved by:
- Prioritising customers, networking and community relationships.
- Being engaged in the Waikanae community’s past, present and future, and delivering to their ever-evolving needs.
- Forming a dedicated Library Hub team to realise the vision and fill Te Ara Whetū with readers, a vast range of community groups and activities, and new users.
- Having business nous and a proven record of successful service design and delivery.
- Supporting the team to deliver a dynamic new model of service.
- Having an appetite to be at the forefront of contemporary library-hub practice.
