Kāpiti dog owners reminded to register

The Kāpiti Coast District Council is reminding dog owners to make sure they’ve registered their pet by next Monday 31 July. It is a legal requirement to register your dog annually and Council is responsible for ensuring all dogs are registered.

After the deadline Council will start sending new invoices to those who haven’t paid, and they’ll include a 50% penalty fee.

Environmental Standards Manager Jacquie Muir says Council is encouraging people to use the online option to avoid expected last minute queues at Service Centres.

“Information about how to pay online is on the registration invoices and through the Council website’s home page - just follow the dog registration banner ad,” she says.

“If you don’t have your dog registration number, please call Council and we can provide that information so you can pay online.

“We know people can lose track of electronic and hard copy invoices so we’ve been working hard through media channels to remind people about their responsibility and the due date to register.

“Unfortunately we still have a number of unregistered dogs with the due date looming. It’s a bit like paying your annual car licensing or WoF fees and needs to be done on time each year.”

A late payment fee is applied if payments are not received by the due date. So a standard neutered/speyed dog currently costs $93 to register, but if a dog owner was to pay after 31 July 2017 that amount would increase to $139.
