Kāpiti Chorale presents: European Masters
St Paul's Church, Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast
SAT 24 MAY 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.
Saturday 24 May, 3:00 pm, St Paul’s Church, Paraparaumu
A concert of sacred music from across Europe. Some of the works are familiar, others are rarely heard, and all have been carefully chosen.
The programme ends with a special performance of Théodore Dubois’ Messe de la Délivrance, a dramatic and seldom-performed work written in 1918 to mark the end of the First World War. Scored for choir, organ, and soloists, the piece is full of contrast and energy.
Earlier in the programme, you’ll hear Fauré’s elegant Cantique de Jean Racine, Franck’s vivid Dextera Domini, and works by Haydn, Gounod, Poulenc, and Mozart. The selection offers a range of sacred expression, from quiet and lyrical to bold and emphatic.
Kāpiti Chorale will be joined by Barbara Paterson (soprano), Richard Taylor (tenor), and Charle Rainey (bass), with Jonathan Berkahn on piano and organ, and Samuel Berkahn on string bass. The choir is led by Musical Director Eric Sidoti, with Assistant Musical Director Ann-Marie Stapp. Both are known for their thoughtful musical direction and strong rapport with the ensemble.
Programme includes:
Cantique de Jean Racine – Fauré
Dextera Domini – Franck
Les chemins d’amour – Poulenc
Insanae et Vanae Curae – Haydn
Trio from The Magic Flute – Mozart
O Divine Redeemer – Gounod
Messe de la Délivrance – DuBois
Printed tickets will soon be available from Moby Dickens’ (Paraparaumu Beach), Jenoa (Waikanae), and Books & Co (Ōtaki), or by emailing [email protected] or calling (04) 976 3491.
