Nominate a local hero
Our annual Civic Awards celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding contributions of our local residents, while the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards are a way to recognise groups or an organisation that help make Kāpiti a great place to live.
The recipients of the Civic Awards and Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards 2021 were announced on 4 August 2021. Find out more about the awards recipients.
Nominations for the 2022 awards will open in April 2022.
The Civic Awards are Council’s highest honour for individual residents and groups who’ve made a lasting impact in the community. Based on public nominations, Council gives awards based on exemplary service or leadership for their community.
After a pause in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2021, the criteria was changed to recognise groups and individuals in our district who have demonstrated service to help keep our communities connected and strong throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Civic Awards are awarded to individuals and groups who have:
- enhanced the welfare and wellbeing of vulnerable communities
- strengthened community connections through compassion and kindness
- adopted innovative approaches to help ensure our communities are resilient, safe, healthy, thriving and connected.

Kāpiti Coast District Council and Wellington Community Trust, together with Wellington Airport, work together to honour the efforts made by groups of residents in our district.
The Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards recognise the contributions made by community groups in six categories: arts and culture, education and child/youth development, health and wellbeing, heritage and environment, sport and leisure, and the rising star category for emerging groups.
