Sustainable Transport Strategy – consultation

This year we’re consulting on a refreshed Sustainable Transport Strategy. This is your chance to have a say on how we plan our transport future.

The Sustainable Transport Strategy[PDF 1.89 MB] provides a long-term approach for guiding transport investment in Kāpiti. It does not detail specific projects or investments, but sets the overarching vision. Closed on 31 July 2020.

The Strategy’s vision is:

To achieve an attractive, well connected, responsive, and safe transport system that enables mode choice.

The Sustainable Transport Strategy has been updated to account for the social, environmental and technological changes that have occurred since it was first written in 2008. A refreshed Sustainable Transport Strategy will bring it into line with today’s issues and expectations.

An up-to-date transport strategy is also required to underpin business cases in applications for NZTA funding for transport projects, and needs to be in place before Greater Wellington adopts an updated Wellington Regional Land Transport Plan in 2021.

The updated Sustainable Transport Strategy identifies a number of challenges to be addressed and proposes outcomes which aim to ensure a complete and integrated transport network.

The Asset Management Plan and Long Term Plan (to be consulted on in 2021) provide details for proposed transport investment in Kāpiti.
