Arts Trail's first weekend successful!

Hundreds of locals and visitors to the district were out and about at the Kāpiti Arts Trail over the weekend.

“We’re really pleased with the way the first weekend went,” says Leeann Morgan, Council’s District Libraries and Arts Manager.

“Many artists had more visitors on the Saturday than the Sunday which may have been due to the beautiful weather or people celebrating the Rugby World Cup. It’s great the event is on again this weekend, so people can get round the sites they missed, revisit artists they really liked or head out on the trail if they didn’t last weekend.”

Waikanae artist Lydia McAllister (exhibiting at the Whitireia Kāpiti Campus) says she really enjoyed the interaction with people looking at her artworks.

“I had lots of questions – many people wanted to know how particular pieces of art came about.”

Peka Peka resident Margo Mitchell says it was great having such a cross section of art to look at on the trail. 

“We’ve had a really good time. It hasn’t been as crowded as last year’s event, probably because it’s being held over two weekends this time – so there’s been plenty of space to have a good look at the works.”

Copies of the Kāpiti Arts Guide, which lists all artists and galleries participating in the trail, are available from libraries, council services centres, Paraparaumu i-Site and some galleries and cafés.
