Community sessions on Raumati Village roading improvements

Published 25 Aug 2020

Drop-in sessions on Raumati Village roading improvements are a chance for the community to find out more and tell Council what they think of the proposed changes.

Sessions will be held (subject to COVID-19 alert levels) in a pop-up container at the Weka Road Triangle, opposite Raumati Beach School, Raumati Road on:

  • Thursday 3 and 10 September 2.30pm-5pm
  • Saturday 5 and 12 September 11am-1pm

And at the Raumati Bowling Club, Marine Gardens on:

  • Monday 14 September 6pm-8pm

Councillor James Cootes, Transportation portfolio holder, says the planned safety improvements will enhance safety particularly around intersections and crossing points used to access schools and shops.

“Work planned for next year will make things safer at the Rosetta Road and Victor Road intersection, and at the Matatua Road and Alexander Road intersection as well as in Kōwhai Grove where additional parking and a footpath is planned.

“Some of our proposed changes for future years are more extensive and I’m sure will be of interest to the community – we want to know what you think so we can consider that in the future designs.”

Access and Transport Manager Glen O’Connor says this proposed future work is subject to funding from NZTA and Council and to further community input, and includes:

  • 2021/22: A roundabout at Raumati Road, Matatua Road and Rosetta Road intersection and improvements at the intersection of Raumati Road and Margaret Road.
  • 2022/23: Changes to Margaret Road once we can see how the changes at the new roundabout are working

“The drop-in sessions are a great opportunity to delve into the detail on all the proposed work and to ask questions,” Councillor Cootes says.
