Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory reports
Council has received a number of awards for reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As part of reducing emissions across the Kāpiti district, as well as our organisation, it's important that we measure emissions.
District emissions
Carbon emissions for the Kāpiti Coast District have been measured using the Global Protocol for Community Scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory (GPC). The method includes greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from stationary energy, transportation, waste, industry (IPPU), agriculture and forestry sectors.
You can read about regional emissions in the Wellington Region report at Greenhouse gas inventory, or find out more at Greater Wellington Regional Council.
Council's corporate GHG emissions
Under that plan, Council adopted a 2021/22 target of reducing its operational carbon footprint to 80 percent of the 2009/10 baseline level.
We have been measuring and reporting our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions since 2012. Our performance has been independently audited and verified under Enviro-Mark Solutions’ Certified Emissions Measurement and Reporting Scheme (CEMARS), renamed Toitū's Carbon reduce in 2019. That scheme has tracked how we measure, manage and reduce our GHG emissions, and reports these in the reports below.
