With 40 kilometres of coastline dotted with beautiful beaches and incredible views, it’s no surprise Kāpiti is so popular during the warmer months with locals and visitors alike!
We maintain more than 500 hectares of parks and sports grounds and almost 80 kilometres of walkways, cycleways, and horse-riding paths. We're spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring our backyard, and there's something for everyone to enjoy!

Looking for a fun place to visit with cool activities to keep the whole family entertained? We’ve got you covered!
From water-based exercise, recreation or swimming lessons, Kāpiti has it all, indoor and outdoor! And if the weather's not playing ball, or you prefer a more relaxed kind of day, our libraries allow you to borrow books, ebooks, audiobooks and music from all over the lower North Island.
And of course, our Arts scene is unparalleled – get out there and visit it all!

This summer we have a bumper calendar of events to help you make the most of our public spaces, facilities and services.
Events include outdoor movies, concerts, yoga, pool parties, scavenger hunts, water fights, garden parties, reading challenges and fun runs. We’re supporting a number of major events like the Ōtaki Kite Festival, the Māoriland Film Festival and the Xterra Wellington Festival, too.

We're all responsible for keeping ourselves and each other safe, and for looking after the things that make Kāpiti a great place to live and visit. We have information on keeping safe at the beach, responsible camping, and how to make sure you know the rules if you're thinking about getting a pool or spa at home.
We'll help you keep up to date on whether the water's safe to swim, and how you can help keep Kāpiti beautiful.
And of course, Summer 2020/21 would not be complete without mentioning COVID-19 – make sure you do your bit, and check out our tips and links to keep up to date.
