Tree Management Policy 2026
Published 01 June 2026
The Kāpiti Coast District Council Tree Management Policy 2026 sets out how Council will plant, maintain, and manage trees on Council-owned and administered land.
The policy aims to balance the environmental, cultural, and community value of trees with public safety, infrastructure protection, and practical maintenance needs. It includes guidance on tree planting, pruning, managing trees near roads and waterways, responding to requests from residents, and when tree removal may be necessary.
The policy supports the principle of putting the right tree in the right place and prioritises retaining healthy, mature trees wherever practicable.
