Meet the Candidates

Under the Local Electoral Act 2001, Council’s Chief Executive has the responsibility to facilitate and foster representative and substantial voter participation in elections. In an effort to provide our community with an opportunity to meet the candidates standing for Council or a Community Board, we have organised five events and one Mayoral debate.

We have also publicly listed all meet the candidate events we’re aware of. The information on this page is for information purposes only and Council is not involved in organising or running any events other than the ones we are hosting directly to ensure we remain politically neutral at all times.

Meet the Candidates events help voters:

  • meet and hear from candidates
  • learn where they stand on issues affecting our District
  • make informed decisions when voting in the local elections 2025.

Events by Kāpiti Coast District Council

These events are organised by Council. Except for the mayoral debate, which will be a facilitated debate dedicated to mayoral candidates, our Meet the Candidate events will involve inviting all candidates running for mayor, districtwide councillor, Māori ward councillor, and ward councillor and community board member positions for that ward to attend. They will each be provided a dedicated space for them to present their candidacy and have conversations with the community who can attend at any time during the two-hour slots.
