Human Resources Coordinator
Permanent | Full Time
Are you an organised, people centred professional who loves variety and getting things done?
We’re a values‑driven organisation focused on positive employee experiences and strong community outcomes. It’s a great place to grow your HR career. You’ll also need to bring resilience and adaptability, council is complex, and you’ll be navigating multiple stakeholders, policies, and priorities. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
Te tūranga | The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Service Delivery, you’ll provide high quality administrative and coordination support across our HR Service Delivery team in a portfolio model. You’ll work both independently and alongside HR Business Partners and the wider People & Capability team to deliver consistent, high standard HR services that support our leaders and people.
On any one day, you might be coordinating matters across employment relations, change processes, HR systems and reporting, recruitment, onboarding, and supporting key initiatives. No two days are the same, and that’s part of the fun.
Kō tō mahi | What you will do
- HR Coordination & Administration: Keep processes humming across multiple portfolios, ensuring they’re policy‑aligned, accurate, and timely. Maintain trackers, templates, and documentation that make life easier for our team and leaders.
- Recruitment: Support end‑to‑end recruitment from candidate coordination and advert posting to interview logistics and offering best practice advice to leaders.
- Project Coordination: Help drive HR projects and change initiatives, keeping timelines and stakeholders on track
- Customer Service: Be a trusted first point of contact for HR queries, managing inboxes and channels with warmth, clarity, and service excellence.
- Continuous Improvement: Spot opportunities to simplify, standardise, and improve. Contribute to policy updates, guidance, and better ways of working.
- Data & Systems: Support HR reporting, keep records tidy, and help us use our systems and tools well to inform good decisions.
Nā tōu rourou | What you will bring
You’ll be a confident, resilient HR generalist in the making who enjoys variety, collaboration, and working closely with leaders. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in HR (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years’ experience in coordination or administration, ideally in HR/OD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- The ability to prioritise, plan ahead, and stay calm when things get busy.
- A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an awareness of Māori perspectives.
- A current and valid NZ driver’s licence.
We value transferable skills—experience from outside traditional HR can still be a great fit. You don’t need to know everything on day one; you do need to be curious, proactive, and eager to learn. In your cover letter, tell us what drew you to this role and what you’ll bring to Council.
