Designer appointed for new Waikanae Community Hub

14 Feb 2024, 11:00 AM

Following a competitive tender process, Kāpiti Coast District Council has appointed Studio Pacific as architect for the new Waikanae Community Hub.

Sean Mallon, Council’s group manager infrastructure, said Council received 15 tenders for the design contract.

“Studio Pacific’s commitment and track record of collaborating with clients and the community really made them stand out from the crowd,” said Mr Mallon.

“They have an impressive body of work creating sustainable and uplifting community, commercial and residential buildings across the country.

Recent projects include designing Tākina, Wellington’s new Convention and Exhibition Centre, and designing Te Manawataki o Te Papa - a collection of civic buildings and spaces including a new library and community hub for Tauranga.

“We’re excited to work with the Studio Pacific team to give the old library building a new lease of life and provide a modern, flexible library and community hub for Waikanae.”

Taking into account what the community told Council last year about what the services they want in their new library and community hub, the Studio Pacific team will work with staff to develop concept designs for the new facility.

“We look forward to sharing the concept designs with the community in the coming months,” added Mr Mallon.
