Waikanae Pop-Up

Council purchased the property at 56–62 Main Road, Waikanae, in September 2023 to support future strategic development opportunities in the Waikanae Town Centre.

The site was designed to be flexible and adaptable for a number of uses which would add value to the community.

For the next 18 months or so, the site will be used as the site office for the contractor building Te Ara Whetū. Some of the area will be fenced off and community picnic tables will be installed.

The benefits of locating the Te Ara Whetū site office in this location include reducing the impact of the construction on local businesses and the carpark behind the old library. It will also be a financial benefit for the library project and provide more space for the contractor to work and to store materials.
