He Pō Kiriata: Kneecap

Māoriland Hub, Ōtaki, Kapiti Coast

THU 16 OCT 7:30 P.M. - 9:45 P.M.

This spring, the Māoriland Hub turns into a cosy little theatre for seven weeks of kiriata and kōrero. From September to November, a selection of Thursday nights will be your chance to slow down, sink into a beanbag, sit back in a chair, and lose yourself in the magic of cinema. Bring your own pillow and blanket if you wish! KNEECAP Synopsis: When fate brings Belfast school teacher JJ into the Orbit of self confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise and Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native language KNEECAP fast becomes the unlikely figurehead of a civil rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries and politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biotic KNEECAP play themselves laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures. Stay for a chat afterwards where we talk all things activism and what that means today. When: Thursday, October 16 2025 Event start: 7:30pm Q&A session with tea and cookies after the screening. See you soon! This screening is R16.
