Korimako - Piano Trio

Waikanae Memorial Hall, Waikanae, Kapiti Coast

SUN 08 MAR 2:30 P.M.

Korimako is a brand new piano trio, but with very familiar musicians. Pianist Michael Endres, violinist Helen Pohl and cellist Rolf Gjelsten are among the most accomplished and seasoned musicians in the country. Michael Endres is acclaimed worldwide, particularly for his interpretation of the music of Schubert. Helen Pohl and Rolf Gjelsten, as former members of the New Zealand String Quartet for 30 years, have performed in many countries around the world. Now these three musicians, who have played together occasionally in various ensembles, are joining forces in a new venture and are thrilled that their new piano trio with its different repertoire ,is such an exciting and joyful experience. The concert opens with a Haydn Trio - one of his last and most inventive and expressive. Aaron Copland's Vitesbk, based on a Jewish folk-song, is dark and dramatic, very different from most of Copland's cheerful music. It is followed by the hypnotic sweetness of Schubert's popular Notturno. The second part of the concert is devoted to Brahms's substantial Opus 87 Trio, a work that is in turn forceful, melodic, intensely rhythmic, serene and passionate - in fact one of the finest masterpieces of this great Romantic composer. Door sales will be available or tickets can be bought from Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach or through the website. Programme Haydn: Piano Trio in E, Hob. XV28 Copland: Vitebsk Schubert: Adagio in Eb, "Notturno" Brahms: Piano Trio in C, Opus 87
