Makerspace

Our Makerspace at Paraparaumu Library is a place for people of all ages to explore, create, innovate and engage with all kinds of maker technology. 

We have 3D printers, vinyl and laser cutters, sewing machines, hand tools, an expanding library of electronics components, as well as a helpful team and workshops to help you get inspired and create. Drop-in during our opening hours or any time you see our door open.

Please note that people under the age of 14 years will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What's in the Makerspace? 

  • Two Bambu 3D printers

Some of the things you can find at the Makerspace at Paraparumu library, including a sewing mannequin, 3D printer, tools, tables and chairs for working on projects.

How much does it cost? 

There may be a cost for some programmes to cover materials. Sponsored places are available.  

3D printing – 10c per gram for general printing.

Costs for other gear can be discussed when you visit, accessibility is important to us.

The makerspace is behind the gallery at Paraparaumu Library, in the old community meeting room. Drop in whenever you see the door open, and our friendly team will show you what we can do together. 


Turn your drawing into a laser cut

All ages

11 February - 30 April

Laser printer cutting honeycomb shapes

Yes that’s right, bring your drawing and we can help you lasercut it for you to take home. All ages are welcome – come in and draw or bring your own drawing.

Vibe coding

What if you could build an app just by talking to your computer? Join our Vibe Coding Drop-In at the library! We’re skipping the boring lectures and jumping straight into building. Using the power of AI, we’ll help you turn your ideas into reality. No coding degree required.

Requirements: Google/gmail account. If you have your own computer, bring it along.

Come and create your own coaster and/or Rubber stamp with you or loved one. Just pop in and ask one of the lads at the Makerspace and we’ll help you every step of the way.


Monthly activator activity 

Available now!

Come in and create your own ball moving maze in the Makerspace!

Design, build, and test your maze as the ball twists and turns through your creation.

Drop in anytime throughout May and prepare to be amazed!

Places are limited so register to secure your spot for Craft Café sessions. You may register as many sessions as you need to complete your project.

Every Thursday 10.30-12pm

  • May Craft - Paper mâché wall taxidermy
  • Ages 14+

Hands working with paper‑mâché, applying strips of newspaper to a tall paper form and dipping pieces into a container of paste on a craft table.

Nau mai, haere mai! Come join the fun at our Craft Café this May.

Get creative with Paper mâché wall taxidermy and design your own quirky, one-of-a-kind piece for your home! You’ll learn how to make paper mâché clay, then bring your unique creation to life.

We’ve got all the materials ready, just bring yourself (and be prepared to get a little messy!).

Spaces are limited, so be sure to register to secure your spot. You’re welcome to book multiple sessions — we recommend at least two so you can really develop your masterpiece.

Come along, get hands-on, and make something truly unique!
