11th Annual Poetry Competition - If You're a Poet, We Want to Know It - is here!

Kāpiti Coast District Libraries annual poetry competition returns for the eleventh year. Celebrate Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day by writing a poem on the theme “Ink|Waituhi”. As usual, the theme can be interpreted anyway you like. 

All entries will be published as a print book and eBook. Winners will be announced on National Poetry Day at the Open Mic Night at Paraparaumu Library on Friday 25 August, 5.30 – 6.30pm.

Entry Details: Entry is free and open to anyone in the Kāpiti community. You may submit one poem per person of no more than 10 lines.

Enter by clicking one of three age groups below:

Child 6 – 12 years 

Teen 13 – 18 years

Adults 19+ years

Submission Dates:  1 -30 June 2023.  

Entries may be in English or Te Reo Māori. Please read the guidelines and conditions of entry. By submitting your poem into this competition, you agree to these conditions.

Keep this date free: Friday 25 August 5.30-6.30pm.

This is the date of the Open Mic Night. A celebration of poetry on National Poetry Day. Come and read your poem before a friendly audience! The results of the competition will be announced and copies of the print book will be available for sale.

Te Whakataetae Ruri ā-Tau 11 - Mēnā He Kairuri Koe, Kei Te Hiahaia Mōhio Mātou - kua ara anō!

Kua ara anō te whakataetae ruri ā-tau o Ngā Whare Pukapuka o Kāpiti mō tana tau tekau mā tahi. Whakanuia a ‘Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day’ mā te tito ruri mō te kaupapa “Waituhi|Ink” . He pērā anō, arā, māu anō e whakatau te tikanga o tēnei kaupapa.

Ko ngā ruri katoa, ka kohia, ā, ka tāngia ki tētahi e-puka me tētahi pukapuka. Ka whakapaohotia ngā toa i te Rā Ruri ā-Motu i Te Pō Hopuoro Tuwhera i Te Whare Pukapuka o Paraparaumu ā te Paraire 25 0 Akuhata, 5:30-6:30.

Taipitopito Whakauru: He utu kore te uru, ā, e wātea ana ki ngā tāngata katoa o Kāpiti. Kotahi te ruri ki te tangata kotahi, kia kaua e neke atu i te 10 rārangi te roa. Tīkina ake ngā pepa whakauru i te paetukutuku o te whare pukapuka atu i te Tāite 1 o Hune.

He reo Pākeha, reo Māori ngā ruri. E tuwhera ana ki ēnei rōpū pakeke:

Tamaiti 6-12 te pakeke

Taiohi 13-18 te pakeke

Pakeke 19+ te pakeke

Te Wā Tuku: 1-30 o Hune 2023

Tēnā koa, āta pānuihia ngā tohutohu me ngā tikanga whakauru. Mā te tuku mai i tō ruri ki te whakataetae nei e whakaae mai ai koe ki ēnei tikanga.

Kia wātea mai tēnei rā: Paraire 25 o Akuhata 5:30-6:30pm.

Koinei te Pō Hopuoro Tuwhera, he whakanui i te ruri i Te Rā Ruri ā-Motu. Nau mai kia toha atu i tō ruri ki te aroaro o tētehi hunga ngākaunui! Ka whakapaohotia ngā hua o te whakataetae, ā, ka wātea ki te hoko i ngā pukapuka kua tāngia.
