Monitoring your resource consent
Once your resource consent is granted it will have conditions on the decision notice.
Conditions will often require you to:
- Let us know when you intend to start building work or begin earthworks
- Get any additional plans approved before work starts
- Complete the works within the required timeframes
A project manager or builder may assist with the running of the project and site management, but the property owner is responsible for making sure that the resource conditions are complied with.
Let us know
You must let us know when you are planning to start work at least 48 hours before you begin. You can email us at [email protected] to let us know.
You will need to provide:
- The property address where work will be done
- Your contact details Your contractors’ details (if applicable)
- Your resource consent number (RM number) and description of works
- The date the work will start
Once you have let us know that you’ve started work, you’ll be assigned a compliance monitoring officer who will be in contact throughout the process.
If the conditions of the resource consent are not complied with, we may need to take compliance action to make sure that any harm to the environment is managed.
Monitoring of resource consents is charged back to the consent holder at an hourly rate for:
- Site inspections
- Reviewing the conditions of the resource consent
- Responding to any complaints that have been received
Monitoring charges will always be less if the requirements of the resource consent conditions are proactively addressed.
What you need to do
Most site inspections don’t require you or your project manager to be there in person. Often, we will do inspections if we are in the area for other reasons - so appointments can be difficult to schedule. Your compliance officer will keep you informed of progress and will meet with you to talk through any issues should they arise.
Change or cancel conditions
You can apply to vary or change the conditions of your resource consent. You should contact the Resource Consents team to discuss the change of condition process.
