Contaminated soil disposal

Contaminated soil is soil with hazardous substances in or on it that are reasonably likely to have significant adverse effects on the environment (including human health).

Contaminated soil is not accepted at either of the transfer stations in Kāpiti.

You’ll need to:

  • apply for permission to dispose of the soil at a specialist site outside of Kāpiti
  • provide Total Concentration and/or TCLP test results of the site (must be completed by a suitably qualified experience practitioner (SQEP) – see MfE website for details)
  • arrange for specialist service providers to remove and transport the material – engage an SQEP who will able to advise on requirements.

You may also need resource consent. A resource consent gives you permission to carry out an activity that may affect the environment.

You can apply for a resource consent online, talk to us on 0800 486 486, or email one of our consent staff at [email protected]
