Great year of creativity in store for Kāpiti

1 Jun 2023, 4:13 PM

The Kāpiti Coast District Council Grants Allocation subcommittee has awarded Creative Communities Scheme funds to 25 applicants across a wide range of arts projects in its latest funding round.

Creative Communities Scheme subcommittee chair Grant Stevenson says Kāpiti can look forward to many great creative opportunities in the year ahead.

“We received many outstanding applications this round, from creative writing workshops for children to a Shakespeare in the park production of Romeo and Juliet and many others,” Mr Stevenson said.

"The difficulty for the subcommittee is that we receive applications for around twice the level of funding we have available, making the decision-making process challenging."

“Recipients will use their grants to fund projects as diverse as music and theatre performances, pottery, printmaking and writing workshops, dance classes, creative workshops for rangatahi, and more.”

The Creative Communities Scheme is funded by Creative New Zealand and Council to support and increase participation in local arts and culture at a grassroots level. Funds are distributed locally twice a year.

The total value of the allocated funding this round is $29,236.
