Wellington region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan
Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2024–29
We’re working with the other seven councils across our region to develop a new Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WRWMMP).

We’ve been engaging with industry, non-government organisations (NGOs) and other stakeholders to understand the challenges and opportunities for waste minimisation in our region, as well as how we can work together to support initiatives to reuse, recycle, repurpose and repair goods and materials instead of sending them to landfill.
As part of the plan’s development, you’ll have the opportunity to have your say. We’ll release the draft plan for public consultation later this year, so keep an eye on this page and our other channels for more information on when this will take place, and how you can be involved.
Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2017–23
In 2016 the councils of the Wellington region worked together to produce the Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2017–23.
The plan sets out what we intend to do over the next 10 years to make sure we manage our waste as best we can for the benefit of our communities, our local economies, and the environment.
