Our final Meet the Candidates drop-in is in Ōtaki this Wednesday and our mobile voting booth is in action across the district from now until Friday 10 October. Still deciding who to vote for? You can watch the Mayoral debate recording and read candidate profiles online, and make sure you post your vote before 7 October to make sure it counts. Find everything you need on our website.
On Sunday, head to Ōtaki for Powering Change, an expo of smart ideas to cut energy costs and emissions. We’re also counting down to Christmas on the Coast – register your float, food truck, or stall now. Plus, several Have Your Say community engagements close soon, so share your thoughts. And with the school holidays rolling on, there’s still plenty to keep tamariki busy across the Coast.
23 Mahuru 2025 | Mayoral candidates debated it out last night
Election season is well underway, and with voting now open, it’s time to make your voice count. From Meet the Candidate events across the district to the Mayoral Debate recording now online, we’ve made it easy for you to connect with those putting their hands up to lead.
We’re also celebrating the return of the spring school holidays with a line-up of activities for tamariki and rangatahi, from quest books and inflatables at the pool to hands-on science and nature fun.
And with Sustainable Spring events in full swing, plus projects like the Waikanae Destination Park and our Reserve Management Plan community engagement, there are plenty of ways to get involved in shaping Kāpiti for the future.

With the deadline to cast your vote for our local election looming, we’re highlighting ways to connect with your candidates – from the Mayoral Debate next Monday 22 September to our Meet the Candidate sessions.
We're also celebrating Beach Clean Up Week with Keep Kāpiti Beautiful at Paraparaumu Beach on Sunday. It's part of our Sustainable Spring programme designed to inspire and connect our hapori (community).
This week also marks 50 years of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week. You’ll notice a little more te reo Māori woven through this issue, always alongside translations, so everyone can join in and learn at their own pace.

This week's Sustainable Spring workshops include making your own cleaning products, waste-wise living, and Xeriscapes with Hannah Zwartz, plus an e-bike 'have a go' session. And while you're filling your calendar, lock in our popular Christmas on the Coast festival and parade. We’re also keen to hear how you’d like our parks and reserves to be managed – share your thoughts online or come along to our drop-in at Ōtaki Centennial Park this Sunday.

2 Mahuru 2025 | Planning for a sustainable future for three waters
Spring has officially sprung, and with it our Sustainable Spring programme kicks off this weekend with events to inspire and enjoy. September is also Mahuru Māori, celebrating Te Reo Māori. Whether your reo stops at kia ora (hello) or you can whaikōrero (speech making) on the marae, speaking a little Te Reo Māori every day is something we can all do to help keep our native tongue alive.
This Saturday our Open Space Planning team will be at Waikanae Park and St Peter's Village Hall in Paekākāriki for market day – come and share your ideas on the future of our parks and join the kōrero (conversation). Ngā mihi nui (many thanks) to everyone who helped make our school winter sports tournaments such a success – check out the photos below!

You really can’t beat Kāpiti on a good day – this week has been a stunner so far. With clear blue skies and the snowcapped Southern Alps and Marlborough Sounds visible from our beaches. It might be a little crisp, but spring is definitely on its way, and so is Sustainable Spring with plenty of events for you to get involved in..
More than 200 people joined us for an inspiring Open Mic Poetry Night at Paraparaumu Library – a beautiful evening of encouragement and celebration. And plenty of brave souls also turned up for Movies in the Pool, daring to watch giant sharks while floating in the dark – wholesome teenage fun at its best!
This week we're asking what you love about our parks as we begin to draft an omnibus Reserve Management Plan.

There's plenty happening this week! Candidate profiles are now online so have a read and find a 'Meet the Candidates' event near you, dive into The MEG-a Movies in the Pool at Ōtaki, build your digital confidence, see how we’re emergency ready, and celebrate tech and innovation with the global Startup World Cup.
It's also your last chance to enjoy Visa Wellington On a Plate: Kāpiti Edition with some seriously tasty burger creations. And if paying your rates is a concern, support is available – you could be eligible for Council rates assistance or the Government’s rebate scheme for low-income homeowners.
