The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) is a nationwide network of New Zealand Mayors, working together to support young rangatahi aged 18–24 into employment, education, training, and other positive activities in our communities.

Our goal is to support young people into meaningful, sustainable local employment. We recognise that taking those first steps into the workforce can be challenging, so MTFJ provides wraparound support to build confidence, develop work readiness, and remove barriers such as transport, work gear, or access to life skills training.

Partnering with local employers

The programme also partners with local employers to create sustainable opportunities that support rangatahi in our district. Employers can access practical support such as help with recruitment, training subsidies, personal protective equipment (PPE), and short-course qualifications or licences, including forklift, Site Safe, first aid, and driver licensing.

Together, we’re building pathways that connect rangatahi with local businesses, creating strong futures for our young people and communities.
