Strengthening Community Capability

Kāpiti Coast District Council works in partnership with Kāpiti Impact Trust to support the development of a capable, connected and thriving community sector.

Through this partnership, community organisations can access practical tools, resources, learning opportunities and support to strengthen the foundations that help them succeed.

Support includes:

  • strengthening leadership and governance capability
  • building stronger connections and collaboration across the sector
  • workshops and training
  • access to sector data and insights to inform decision making
  • developing shared leadership and collective approaches.

Examples of support available through the partnership include:

  • access to GEM Local grant-seeker subscriptions for 50 community organisations
  • skill-building workshops and troubleshooting clinics to develop practical grant-seeking skills
  • tailored advice and support for organisations looking for funding opportunities
  • Community Sector Forums to help build a stronger and more connected community and social sector.

Tools and resources for community organisations

CommunityNet Aotearoa is an online hub of resources designed to strengthen organisations and communities.

Resources include:

  • information and advice
  • tools and templates
  • how-to guides.

The Community Resource Kit is a guide to establishing and managing community groups across Aotearoa New Zealand.

NZ Navigator is a free online self-assessment tool that helps community organisations identify their strengths and areas for development. It also provides access to organisational capability resources.

Connect with the community sector

Community networks provide opportunities for organisations to:

  • connect with other organisations
  • share information
  • collaborate
  • stay informed about activities and issues across Kāpiti.

Kāpiti Community Network

Volunteer Kāpiti coordinates the Kāpiti Community Network.

The network brings volunteer community organisations together to connect, collaborate, and share information about local events and activities.

Meetings are held monthly across:

  • Paekākāriki
  • Paraparaumu
  • Raumati
  • Waikanae
  • Ōtaki.

Ōtaki Community Network Forum

The Ōtaki Community Network Forum brings together community and social service organisations to:

  • share information
  • build connections
  • collaborate
  • better understand local community needs.

Meetings are held at 9.30am on the first Tuesday of each month from February to November at the Supper Rooms, next to the Ōtaki Library.
