Festivals receive Creative NZ funding

Two Kāpiti festivals have received funding in the one-off Creative Communities Scheme Festival Fund.

The $15,000 fund was established to support festivals that celebrate the life experiences, stories, cultures, and regional identities of New Zealanders who continue to be impacted by the effects of COVID-19.

The two successful applicants were:

• The Rangimārie/Peace Day Festival: A music festival with music, kai, activities, poetry, visual arts for the whole community to be run over a weekend in late November at various points in Queen Elizabeth Park.

• The Multi-Fest Kāpiti – Winter Festival (6 July 2024): Kāpiti Coast multicultural communities celebrating diversity, cultural richness through a lively festival featuring music and dance performances, accompanied by traditional cuisines and attire.

Meanwhile, the 18 recipients of the $24,000 Creative Communities Scheme include music, literature, visual arts, comedy and drama events, exhibitions and workshops.

Council arts events coordinator Nerita Clark says the Creative Communities Scheme supports arts and cultural activities with the goal of increasing community participation through diverse local projects.

“We received many great applications, and it was a tough selection process, but we are pleased to be supporting a wonderful array of art and culture projects in Kāpiti,” Ms Clark says.

“There is something for everyone and all the projects will bring vibrancy and fun to the community.”
