Practical sustainability takes centre stage this spring

This September and October, Kāpiti Coast District Council is partnering with more than 14 local community groups to bring a range of Sustainable Spring workshops and events to Kāpiti.

Environment and Communities Committee Chair, and Deputy Mayor Martin Halliday, says the Sustainable Spring programme highlights Council's commitment to a sustainable and resilient future for Kāpiti.

"We're helping communities find ways to save energy and reduce household costs, learn about local food security and self-sufficiency, and how to get involved with local sustainability initiatives.

“This year's programme meets people where they’re at, with free and affordable events exploring practical ways to help take the financial pressure off.

“It’s a chance to learn more about electrification, energy efficiency and solar power; household and community disaster preparedness; gardening, composting and biochar; household and business waste reduction; and much more.” 

Programmes like Sustainable Spring help deliver on Councils Emissions Reduction Strategy and the Regional Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.

Deputy Mayor Halliday emphasises the need for collaboration.

“This isn’t something we can do alone – by working together with our community, we can make a positive collective impact for current and future generations.”

Events that directly focus on delivering less waste outcomes are funded through Council’s waste levy.
