Winter Enamels Weekend
Workspace Ōtaki, Ōtaki, Kapiti Coast
SAT 16 AUG 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
This is a weekend-long workshop focused on beautiful enamels on copper or silver. It is a mixed level class. Ideal for those who have done some basic enamelling and want to have more time in a class to create their colourful pieces. Complete beginners can also attend, but will create much simpler items. Create textured pendants or earrings, or a more complex art project, using copper and silver foil, or straight silver. Apply stunningly coloured, transparent glass enamels to your piece with great results! Beginners in metalwork will be shown how to apply textures and small alterations to the pieces using either hammers or roll-printed textures before prepping the metal for the glass enamel. Items they can expect to make include earrings, pendants or an enamelled disc they can set into a silver bezel setting in one of our ring making classes. Those with some metalwork experience can take on a more advanced designs using cloisonne wire, or drawing with graphite onto their piece. They could also look at creating pieces that are able to be finished in their other metalworking classes or home studio. The course fee covers materials such as copper, fine silver foil and cloisonne wires and enamels, as well as simple findings. Silver is extra and can be purchased at the studio if needed along with more findings like sterling silver ear wires and chains. Kids aged 12 (or so) are welcome to attend the class, but any person under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying, enrolled parent or caregiver.
