The Antarctic Film Festival - Paekākāriki

St Peters Village Hall, Paekākāriki, Kapiti Coast

TUE 24 MAR 6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.

An unforgettable evening of storytelling from the coldest place on Earth. The New Zealand Antarctic Society is proud to invite you to a presentation by Georgia Grant and a curated selection of captivating short films from the heart of Antarctica. The films blend stunning documentary footage, curated by award winning filmmaker Anthony Powell, that reveals the continent’s stark beauty, unforgiving conditions, climate change, and penguin antics with stories captured by inventive and funny entries from the Winter International Film Festival of Antarctica’s 48-Hour Challenge, an annual showcase of creativity and resilience from those who winter-over on the Ice. But before the films, we'll hear from Georgia Grant who is a sedimentologist within the Earth Sciences Surface Geoscience Department. Her research interests focus on climate variability in recent periods and past warmer climates, including Antarctic Ice Sheet and sea-level change. She analyses the statistical frequency of physical and geochemical characteristics of shallow-marine and deep-marine sediment cores. Come and join us for this informative talk and learn from Georgia's insights.
