Matariki Double-Feature: Ngāti (1987) & The Camera on the Shore (2009)

Barry Barclay's Ngati is of historical and cultural significance in Aotearoa New Zealand as it is the first feature film written and directed by Māori. The film is set in 1948 in a small town on the east coast of New Zealand during the impending closure of a freezing works and the threat of unemployment for the local community. The 4pm screening of "Ngati" will be followed by a short kai break before a 6.15pm screening of "The Camera on the Shore" (2009), a documentary about the late Barry Barclay that will be introduced by director Graeme Tuckett.
