The Stars of Matariki

Ōtaki College, Ōtaki, Kapiti Coast

Today 7:00 P.M. - 8:45 P.M.

Kia ora koutou The Ōtaki College Year 7 & 8 students have been hard at work this term, working on their production - 'The Stars of Matariki', written by Dr David McMillan. We would love to see members of our Community coming along to support our tamariki by purchasing tickets and spreading the word. The show is directed by Whaea Tamsin Dashfield-Speight and is staged and performed by our Year 7 & 8 students. About the show: The action-packed musıcal begins when a class' overnight marae visit is disrupted by a severe storm. With the power, Wi-Fi and cell phone coverage gone, the children reluctantly tall into the embrace o-traditional life on the marae. Their journey includes learning about the Maramataka (Māori calendar), Poutama/learning stairway of excellence), Pōwhiri (welcoming onto the marae), Matariki and the Māori New Year. To entertain the children the kaumatua (elders) recount the little known legend of Haunui's unsuccessful quest to overthrow the Matariki.
