Parents and teachers

Helpful information and education resources for parents such as local events, reading with your children, and keeping them safe online.

Reading aloud to your children

Reading aloud to children is one of the best ways to help them discover the joy of reading. It's never too early - or too late - to start. All children, even infants and teens, can benefit from listening to you read aloud.

Start With A Book has tips and strategies for reading to and with your children as they grow.

Read Aloud 15 Minutes is a website dedicated to promoting reading aloud to children.

Books for babies

Kāpiti Coast District Libraries, in conjunction with Penguin Books, is pleased to offer all new parents a gift pack for their new baby. It includes a Baby’s World First Focus book.

From about six months of age, your baby will respond best to bold, contrasting colours and graphics. That’s why it’s important to provide your baby with toys that feature the visual extremes of black, white and red. These high-contrast colours will captivate and hold baby’s attention, encouraging visual development as well as physical activity – like wiggling, kicking, and arm waving.
