The timeline outlines achievements so far and indicative dates for the Water Supply Project work stream.

Stage 1: Construction period

April 2014 

River Baseline monitoring

2014–16 

Interim monitoring of water levels, wetlands, saline intrusion, and river and stream flows.

2016 

Development of ongoing monitoring plans.

2013 

September 

Detail design complete - produce a detailed design reflecting the consent requirements and the solutions selected

Resource consent approved for a 35 year period.

 December

Tender awarded for construction

2012

June–July

Well drilling completed.

July

Land purchase of Maungakotukutuku Dam site - cultural impact assessment, develop covenant agreement & negotiate purchase agreements.

August 

Off-River algae experiment completed.

September

Council endorsement of River Recharge with groundwater solution.

September–October

River Recharge Preliminary design/Assessment Environmental Effects (AEE)

November 

Resource Consents applications lodged.

Council Annual Plan Workshop – Water Conservation Plan outline presented.

4 March

Council Workshop on Water Conservation Plan.

11 March

Council to confirm water supply shortlist of 6 in-catchment options.

22 March

World Water Day – launch of school competitions on water.

27/28 March  

Sustainable Home and Garden Show in Paraparaumu includes information stand on short list solutions for Water Project.

29 March–30 April

Water Conservation Plan part of Annual Plan consultation period.

March–June

Detailed technical analysis of shorted list solutions.
Public consultation continues to refine selection process with solution discussions.

May

Hearing for submitters on Annual Plan including Water Conservation.
Public Information Day.

June

Council adopts Annual Plan including Water Conservation Plan.
Council reduces shortlisted options to four.

July

Key stakeholder meetings reviewing technical information on the remaining options.

19 August

Council decides on preferred water supply solution with the top ranked option being selected.

September–October

Confirm budget and programme following solution selection.
On going consultation with Iwi and key stakeholders.
Optimise well drilling strategy.

November 

Start Cultural Impact assessment of top ranked solutions.

Council adopts the 2009/19 Long Term Council Community Plan. The Plan outlines the district’s water supply and conservation goals, including a five year plan to build new supply capacity.

August/September 

Water Project Team discusses partnership approach with Iwi.
Water Project Team begins consultation with stakeholders.

October/November

 

Council appoints Technical Advisory Group of local residents, all volunteers and experts in their fields.
Council asks for expressions of interest from technical consultancies.

December

Technical consultants appointed.
Council adopts Water Supply Capacity Review and Options for Supplementary Supply report which outlines 41 options.
First round of public meetings to discuss community values on water.
Values will inform the criteria used to assess the various water supply options.
Development of Water Conservation Plan commences.
