Annual report shows council continues to deliver on its plan

Published 29 Sep 2017

Yesterday the Kāpiti Coast District Council adopted the annual report for 2016/17, which sets out the work it’s done over the past year to continue delivering on its long term plan while providing a full range of services to the community.

Mayor K Gurunathan says he’s pleased with the solid progress during the year.

“This was the second year of the current long term plan, and we’ve seen some big steps ahead on projects initiated the year before,” he says.

“While this work continues, we’re already looking ahead to check our direction and refresh our long term plan from 2018, which we’ll be talking about much more in the months ahead.

“The year saw the rebuild and resurfacing of the Te Ātiawa Park completed and the start of the upgrade of the Ōtaki Pool and the building of the adjoining splash pad.

“In addition, there was progress on the youth development centre, which is expected to be open in March 2018.”

Work continued on the 14-year programme of activity centred on the Paraparaumu and Waikanae town centres that aims to take advantage of the new Expressway, which opened in February. Progress in 2016/17 included the upgrade of Kāpiti Road and redevelopment of Kapiti Lights which is due for completion in early 2018.

“At the same time as making progress on these significant pieces of work, we’ve continued to deliver a very wide range of services and facilities, and met challenges such as major weather-related events and November’s earthquake,” says the Mayor.

Chief Executive Pat Dougherty says it’s pleasing to see that Kāpiti residents’ satisfaction with Council performance, services and facilities has continued to improve over the past year.

“Also, our Council’s efficiency in providing services for our district has again been ranked as one of the best in the latest Ratepayers’ Report from the Taxpayers’ Union,” he says.

“My departure towards the end of the year means this will be my last annual report for the Kāpiti Coast District, and I’m pleased that I’ll be leaving the organisation in such a strong position.  I’m proud of the hard work that the Council does every day, to ensure we provide good value services to the people of Kāpiti.”
