Raumati Road works update (1)

Published 22 Jun 2017

STOP/GO, AND RESTRICTIONS FOR LARGE TRUCKS AND BUSES

Road improvements and maintenance are in full swing on Raumati Road, with roundabout works ramping up and road repairs taking place over the coming weeks.

Work is underway to build the roundabout at the Raumati Road, Goldsborough Avenue and Hillcrest Road intersection, and will take approximately 7-8 weeks to complete.

Group Manager Sean Mallon says increased traffic management will be in place, including stop/go and a detour for large vehicles.

“For the next two weeks, large trucks and double axle buses over 12 metres long travelling along Raumati Road will be diverted via Matai, Menin and Rosetta Roads to avoid our roundabout works,” says Mr Mallon.

“We’ll also have stop/go in place at the roundabout during work hours to make sure road users and our workers can carry out the work safely around live traffic. Stop/go will be put on hold at peak school times to help the traffic flow smoothly.”

Mr Mallon recognises the works are taking longer than expected and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

“The work to build and complete the roundabout should take around 7-8 weeks to complete. This is longer than we expected the works to take and we know our continued presence in the area is an inconvenience for Raumati residents, particularly around school times, so we’d like to apologise for the delays and thank everyone for their patience. We encourage everyone to allow slightly longer for their journey through this area until works are complete.

“A range of complications and additional works have had to be incorporated into the works programme, and that’s why we’re seeing delays - we plan to make the most of the upcoming school holidays to get this work pushed through.”

Mr Mallon says there are also road repairs taking place on other parts of Raumati Road over the coming weeks.

“Now that Expressway construction traffic is off Raumati Road, we’re carrying out some surface repairs between Rimu and Rata Roads on behalf of the M2PP Alliance. We’ll be working on this section road for the next few days between 7am and 6pm. So we can carry out these works safely, traffic heading west on Raumati Road will detour via Rata Road during these times. There will be no changes for traffic going towards Raumati.

“We’re carrying out these improvements to better serve the needs of all Raumati Road users. We know there’s a lot going on down here at the moment, and we’re advising people to take extra care when travelling through the worksites.”
