RED CROSS PARTNERS WITH KĀPITI COAST DISTRICT COUNCIL FOR THIS YEAR’S NEIGHBOUR’S DAY EVENTS

Published 09 Mar 2018

Red Cross is partnering with the Kāpiti Coast District Council to support this year’s Over the Fence Cuppa events this month.

Council Programme Design and Delivery Manager Tania Parata says the Red Cross education truck will be in the District and will be packed with emergency grab bags for Over the Fence Cuppa participants.

“Event attendees will get to unpack the bags with Red Cross volunteers and talk about how they can be better prepared for emergencies like earthquakes, tsunami, and flooding.”

Red Cross team leader Ina Werner is pleased to be working with the Council on the national Neighbour’s Day weekend and says that building resilience as a community starts at home.

"Red Cross is a natural supporter of Neighbour's Day around the country, and we look forward to chatting to people across Kāpiti as they enjoy their cuppas over the fence. Building resilience as a community is an organic process that starts in the home, and this extends to neighbours, too. Only by working together can we become stronger and better prepared for the worst case scenario."

Kāpiti residents who sign up to host an Over the Fence Cuppa will receive a support pack from the Council, including resources, information, and some goodies to get their event started on the right foot.

Registrations for Over the Fence Cuppas close 16 March, 5pm, and can be made online at www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/Our-District/Our-Community/Neighbours-Day/
