Yellow line extension for Mazengarb Road

Published 11 May 2018

As part of recent maintenance work on Mazengarb Road, the Kāpiti Coast District Council has extended the length of broken yellow lines along parts of the newly resealed section of road.

Affected residents and business owners have expressed concern over the extension of yellow lines on both sides of the road between Makarini Street and Ratanui Road, and the lack of consultation before they were put in place.

Group Manager Sean Mallon would like to acknowledge, and apologise for, the communication breakdown between Council, and local business and residents.

“Normally when we carry out changes like this, we engage with affected properties before anything is carried out. Unfortunately our normal process with residents wasn’t followed before the yellow lines were installed, and we’ve apologised to our affected community members along Mazengarb Road.”

The yellow lines have been put in place so Council can eventually install proposed official cycle lanes in the area.

“There’s a proposed project in the pipeline to increase the length of on–road cycle lanes on Mazengarb Road as part of our Stride and Ride programme, particularly for Paraparaumu College students, but also for the wider community so everyone can access the expressway shared pathway more safely. The yellow lines are the first step in kicking off that project, and now we’re working closely with residents and businesses in the area to seek feedback on the proposed cycle lanes.”
