Kāpiti Major Events Fund
Major events development has been identified as a key driver in achieving long term economic development for the Kāpiti district. In December 2015, the Kāpiti Events Plan 2015-2018 was adopted as an action plan for supporting and leading major events that bring economic benefits to Kāpiti.
The goal is to build a diverse calendar of events that attract visitors, add vibrancy to our communities, and provide a return on investment for the local economy.
Consideration is given to major events/or feasibility studies of major events, that:
- have a distinct Kāpiti flavour
- showcase Kāpiti Coast’s positive attributes, so media outside the district can include these in any articles about the events
- have long term economic development benefits and are likely to generate at least a 5:1 return on the Council’s investment
- meet tangata whenua and community aspirations.
Five events will receive funding from the Council’s Major Events Fund for 2018/2019 to grow and develop their signature events:
Kāpiti Food Fair - 1 December 2018 (gate sales available)
Ōtaki Kite Festival - 16-17 February 2019
Coastella Music Festival - 23 February 2019 - Tickets on sale November 2018
Māoriland Film Festival - 20-24 March 2019
The Council is also funding the development of FFFLAIR, an international horticultural festival which is expected to debut in Kāpiti in 2020.
