People

Kāpiti Coast is a dynamic and diverse community, comprising of distinct and connected villages as well as thriving local economies and communities of interest. The district has good transport connectivity to major centres, although public transport options are limited between the villages. Residents value the peaceful, safe atmosphere, and relaxed coastal lifestyle.

Feedback demonstrates that the Kāpiti Coast community values inclusivity and community spirit, and would like to enhance community spaces and provide more opportunities for social connections, particularly for young people. We have heard that there is strong concern about access to health care, and that there is support for balanced development.

Our peaceful, safe atmosphere is valued, although there are some calls for improved security measures with concerns in some local areas about safety.

Our community would like Kāpiti District to be a safe community where urban design, public amenities and facilities reflect crime prevision philosophy. There are adequate local safety-oriented services. Community is inclusive and equal.

Kāpiti Coast is a thriving district, nestled between the mountains and the sea. Our landscapes support a range of activities, including primary agriculture, villages and townships, commerce, reserves and recreation. The natural environment and proximity to water bodies is highly valued, and the community treasures the natural and built environments.  

We have heard that the community want to ensure our environment is safeguarded to allow future generations to enjoy the lifestyle we have today. Feedback across the district expresses support for sustainable development and balanced growth that preserves the existing character, and protects our green spaces and agricultural land.
