Are you an experienced horticultural gardener, or do you have proven experience maintaining parks, reserves, cemeteries, or other public green spaces to a high standard?
Come and join our Horticulture and Operations team!
We are looking for a Gardener - Horticulture Cemeteries to help care for and enhance our district's cemeteries and amenity landscapes. This is a fantastic opportunity to combine your passion for horticulture with a meaningful community service, helping to create welcoming, respectful and well-maintained environments for residents and visitors.
In this key position, you will maintain cemetery gardens, landscaped areas, amenity plantings and turf areas, while also supporting cemetery operational activities including interments, grave site probes and other associated tasks.
As part of the Operations Team, you'll work alongside a skilled and supportive team of horticultural professionals and report to the Team Leader Horticulture, Operations. Together, you'll help ensure our cemeteries, reserves and public spaces are maintained to a high standard and continue to be places our community can be proud of.
Nā tōu rourou | What you will bring
To excel in this role, you will have practical horticultural experience, a strong customer service focus, and hold a current and valid NZ Class 1 Driver Licence.
You'll also bring strong knowledge of and experience in:
Current Grow Safe and First Aid certifications would be advantageous, although Council will support the successful applicant to gain and maintain these qualifications where required.

- Amenity horticulture, including gardens, shrubbery, trees, annual bedding and turf maintenance.
- Operating horticultural plant and equipment safely, including ride-on mowers, pedestrian mowers, line trimmers and similar machinery.
- Working effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Building positive relationships with customers, stakeholders and colleagues.
- Time management, organisation and accurate record keeping.
- Carrying out physically demanding work including planting, digging, mowing and general horticultural maintenance activities.
- Safe work practices and a commitment to health and safety.
