There's plenty happening this week! Candidate profiles are now online so have a read and find a 'Meet the Candidates' event near you, dive into The MEG-a Movies in the Pool at Ōtaki, build your digital confidence, see how we’re emergency ready, and celebrate tech and innovation with the global Startup World Cup.
It's also your last chance to enjoy Visa Wellington On a Plate: Kāpiti Edition with some seriously tasty burger creations. And if paying your rates is a concern, support is available – you could be eligible for Council rates assistance or the Government’s rebate scheme for low-income homeowners. Find out what options might work for you.
12 August 2025 | Celebrating our local heroes
While the weather’s been more winter woollies and brollies than sunshine lately, there are small signs that spring is on the way – like a rare sight of quadruplet lambs born recently in Te Horo. Celebrating our local heroes at the Kāpiti Good Sorts and Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards last week brought plenty of warm fuzzies, as did the passion and ideas of skatepark users of all ages at our Waikanae skatepark design workshop.
If you're wanting to stay cosy indoors, check out the new programme at our Makerspace or be inspired at our open mic poetry night. There's more to share, so grab something warm, settle in, and see what’s happening around Kāpiti.
5 August 2025 | Meet your candidates!
Who else was impressed by the mana and aroha at Saturday’s Tākiri o te ata Kaumātua Kapa Haka Festival? It was a beautiful day celebrating our kaumātua with waiata, performance and kai, bringing our community together. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a special event.

29 July 2025 | It's the final countdown!
It's the final countdown! If you want to vote in this year’s local elections, make sure you're enrolled at your current address by 12 noon, Friday 1 August. Head to vote.nz and check your details today – especially if you’ve moved, recently turned 18, or are new to the district.
It’s also the last couple of days to register your dog before late fees apply – make sure your furry friend is all set for another year before 5pm, Thursday 31 July.
Heads up for night drivers – the southbound on-ramp at Poplar Avenue, Raumati will be closed for remedial works from 9pm to 4.30am on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 July, weather permitting. Detour via the Kāpiti Road on-ramp and check the NZTA website for the latest updates.
22 July 2025 | It's time to get creative
Hot off the press, the popular Maramataka calendars are now available from our service centres for $25 each – or just $20 if you’re stocking up with 50 or more. Perfect for planning your year the mātauranga Māori way.
And speaking of planning for the future… we’re on the lookout for community-minded leaders to stand for Council. If you’ve got big ideas, care about Kāpiti, and want to help shape the place we call home, now’s your chance. It's serious mahi – but also seriously rewarding. Nominations close 12 noon sharp, 1 August.
15 July 2025 | Meet the candidates
What a weekend! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Waterworld at Coastlands Aquatic Centre – we had more than 1,100 people through the doors! It was great to see so many smiling faces enjoying the inflatable fun, and a special shout-out to Suzy Cato for bringing the magic to our Paraparaumu Library with her stories and songs last Thursday.
A quick reminder that it’s time to register your dog if you haven’t already – 1 August is the deadline. Registering your pup helps us reunite lost dogs with their whānau faster and keeps our community safe. You can take care of it online, by phone, or in person at any of our service centres. 1 August is also when nominations for local elections are due, so if you’re thinking of standing come to one of our Candidate Information Sessions this Saturday.
