28 April 2026 | 90+ years of memories at the Ōtaki Library

How nice was it to have another long weekend? Thank you to everyone who joined us for Anzac commemorations across the district, remembering those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who did not return.

And ngā mihi to everyone who took part in our Everything Kāpiti annual survey. With over 500 participants, we’ve gained valuable insights that will help guide improvements across this e-newsletter. Congratulations to Fiona, the winner of the Go and Grab Bag.

Even though it's a short week, we've got plenty on for you. Visit Ōtaki Library to celebrate 90 years of delivering for our community, have your say on our Emissions Reduction Plan, and see how your rates are working for you. Read on to find out more.

21 April 2026 | Significant milestone reached for new economic development model

It's been a soggy few days and while our district has been spared the worst of the complex weather system moving through the region, not all of our neighbours have been as fortunate. Our thoughts are with those affected – please stay alert and keep an eye on official channels for updates.

We reached a new milestone for our new economic development model last week with the signing of the Kāpiti NZ Trust deed. This week we also have updates on Anzac Day services, increasing the resilience of some of our community buildings, and the new Kaitawa flying fox. Read on to find out more.

Stay safe and stay emergency ready.

14 April 2026 | Paekākāriki seawall replacement about to begin

It's week two of the school holidays and we have plenty for tamariki (children) to do in our pools and libraries – or head along to Ōtaki for a day of fun seeing all it has to offer!

In this week's edition, we're starting the replacement of the Paekākāriki seawall, see what sustainability looks like for the build of Te Ara Whetū, the new library Hub for Waikanae, and meet Zula, a lovable black lab-cross searching for her forever home.

Please note all our Customer Service Centres, including the front desk at the Council building, will be closed on Friday 17 April. You can still get in touch with us by phone on 0800 486 486.

Also, if you are travelling between Waikanae and Peka Peka, we suggest you plan ahead, take a detour, and allow extra travel time while the housing developer builds a new roundabout on Old SH1.
