Everything Kāpiti – latest news, events and hot tips

12 Mar 2026, 10:33 AM

We’re making the most of the daylight hours and pushing ahead with projects across the district. This includes relocating some local lizards from the Paekākāriki seawall in preparation for replacing the seawall with a new like-for-like timber wall.

Our work to clean up after the recent storm continues this week with work to remove hanging branches from the Waikanae River Trail being carried out over the next few days.

We also have updates on a trial of licence plate recognition technology, an invitation to join our Greener Neighbourhoods Programme, and new speed limits coming to Te Horo and Ōtaki townships.

Make sure to head along to Ōtaki Beach this weekend and see the sky covered in colour at the Ōtaki Kite Festival.
