Less Waste Grants now open – Apply before 21 June

11 May 2026

Kāpiti Coast District Council (KCDC) is encouraging its supplier community to apply for the annual Less Waste grants, with applications closing on 21 June.

Council wants to support local businesses to connect with us on our opportunities and strengthen supplier ability to deliver positive environmental outcomes. The Less Waste annual grants are a practical way for suppliers to turn innovative ideas into action and contribute to Kāpiti’s waste reduction goals.

Local businesses, including KCDC suppliers, can apply for funding for eligible waste minimisation projects, with up to 75% of eligible ‘less waste’ project-specific costs covered. This co-funding makes it easier to trial new approaches, invest in improved systems, and embed more sustainable practices in day-to-day operations.

Projects can focus on areas such as reducing construction and demolition waste, improving reuse and recycling, or adopting circular economy approaches. Contracts undertaken for Council can generate a significant share of landfill waste, presenting a clear opportunity for suppliers to lead change through smarter design, material use, and recovery practices.

Local initiatives like Ōtaihanga Zero Waste demonstrate how collaboration and innovation can reduce waste, create value from materials, and support more sustainable business models across the district.

KCDC suppliers play a key role in delivering services and infrastructure. By applying for Less Waste funding, suppliers can strengthen their sustainability performance while helping achieve long-term outcomes for the Kāpiti Coast.

If you have a project idea that could make a difference, now is the time to act.
