Soundscape Series: Ossia
The Bond Store, Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast
SAT 19 SEP 8:00 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
Ossia is a new collaborative ensemble bringing together vocalist Jess Deacon, keyboardist and melodica player Jessica Murphy, guitarist / bassist Rob Kingi, and drummer Cam Steel. Built around musical trust, curiosity and improvisation, Ossia creates performances that move between original songs, atmospheric soundscapes and spontaneous musical conversations. Drawing on influences from jazz, folk, soul, rock and contemporary improvisational music, the group allows each piece to unfold in the moment, shaped by the musicians, the audience and the energy of the space. Ossia (Italian for 'alternate musical passage') made its first public outing at Toi MAHARA in June 2026, where the ensemble’s exploratory approach was warmly received. That debut performance established the foundation of what Ossia is becoming: expressive, responsive and difficult to place within a single genre, with moments that can feel intimate and spacious before building into something more rhythmic, powerful and expansive. For this Soundscape Series performance at The Bond Store, Ossia will continue developing that musical language in a new setting. Audiences can expect a set that is both carefully crafted and open to possibility, combining strong original material with improvisation and the sense that anything might happen next. About the Mostly Music Soundscape Series: A curated series of intimate live music experiences showcasing the depth, texture and emotion of sound. Each performance invites you to immerse yourself in a new soundscape, informed by genre, sonic craft, and music as an art form. Designed for music lovers who want more than a background soundtrack, this series celebrates live performance with a diverse range of acclaimed performers. Coming up: Saturday 17 October — Michelle Scullion Doors 7:30pm, with events starting at 8pm. These events will take place inside at The Bond Store, Paraparaumu and are seated with general admission.
