Makerspace
Our Makerspace at Paraparaumu Library is a place for people of all ages to explore, create, innovate and engage with all kinds of maker technology.
We have 3D printers, vinyl and laser cutters, sewing machines, hand tools, an expanding library of electronics components, as well as a helpful team and workshops to help you get inspired and create. Drop-in during our opening hours or any time you see our door open.

Please note that people under the age of 14 years will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

How much does it cost?
There may be a cost for some programmes to cover materials. Sponsored places are available.
3D printing – 10c per gram for general printing (talk to us about our discounted rate for people designing their own work).
Costs for other gear can be discussed when you visit, accessibility is important to us.
Programmes
We’re offering makerspace programmes for anyone age 14 and older, so sign up and get started on your next project. Our programmes will run from 25 Aug – 5 November 3.45–4.45pm.
The makerspace is behind the gallery at Paraparaumu Library, in the old community meeting room. Drop in whenever you see the door open, and our friendly team will show you what we can do together.
Product Design
Mondays
25 August - 3 November
3.45–4.45pm

CAD Club – Interested in using computers to design products for 3d printers, laser cutters and other tools? Come and learn to use a range of software and tools to design and make a product of your choice. You will get an introduction to using Onshape and then develop a design of your own. Any skill level is welcome, learn and create at your own pace.
Suitable for people ages 14 and older.
Cost for materials used in your project.
Lamp Design
Wednesdays
27 August - 5 November
3.45-4.45pm.

Come, design and learn how make your own lamp which you will be taking home. You will be using CAD software (Onshape), 3d printers and laser cutters. If you are eager to challenge yourself and want to learn something new and creative, register and let's have some fun. Pop into the makerspace and chat with our team to find out more about our equipment and programmes.

Places are limited so register to secure your spot for Social Sewcial Club and Craft Café sessions. You may register as many sessions as you need to complete your project.
Drop-in places may be available on the day subject to attendance, however, registered attendees will have priority.
Join our adults Craft Café on Thursdays and relax in fun learning environment.
We’ll be working on a new project each month, so come to as many sessions as you need to complete your craft. All materials are provided.
The project for September is Filet crochet
This is a very old crochet technique and is often used for creating beautiful garments that works with any yarn weight. Basic crochet skills will be useful but not essential to learn this craft.
Suitable for people aged 14 and older.
Free.

Sewcial Drop-in sessions
Every Thursday 1.30-3.30pm.

Join our friendly afternoon “sewcial club” to learn basic sewing skills or create something cute from recycled fabrics for your favourite people. This session for people aged 14 and older.
Free.
Places are limited so register to secure your spot. You may register as many sessions as you need to complete your project.
Drop-in places may be available on the day subject to attendance, however, registered attendees will have priority.
After school Sewcial sessions
