Draft plan change 1F – Modification of indigenous vegetation
Council’s drafting changes to controlled activity Rule ECO-R6, which manages modification of indigenous vegetation in particular circumstances.
We’ve identified unintended consequences when this rule is implemented; significant adverse effects on indigenous biodiversity can occur under the rule. This is not the intent of the rule.
We plan to address this to make sure the rule gives effect to the Resource Management Act (RMA) requirement that Council protects significant indigenous vegetation and significant habitats of indigenous fauna as a matter of national importance (RMA section 6(c)).
This draft plan change also includes an update to the list of Key Indigenous Tree Species (ECO-Table 1), reflecting there are two different Kānuka species that occur in the Kāpiti Coast district.
Note: “draft” plan changes are not Council policy and do not have any legal effect.
Have your say by 5pm, Wednesday 11 May.
