Hautere/Te Horo - precautionary boil water notice
15 Oct 2025, 1:57 PM
Following a negative sample result, we're pleased to share that the precautionary boil water notice for the Hautere/Te Horo public water supply has been lifted. See latest media release.
During routine sampling of our water network in Hautere a sample has detected a small reading for bacteria (1 E.Coli). The presence of E.Coli indicates the water is potentially not safe to drink and could cause illness. As a result and in compliance with the Council’s approved water safety plan, a precautionary boil notice must be issued and is in immediate effect.
If you are connected to the Hautere water supply, please:
- Boil all water used for drinking, preparing food, cooking, making up infant formula, handwashing, and cleaning teeth.
- Boil water even if you can smell chlorine in it.
- Continue to boil water until advised the water is safe again.
Our treatment plant is working as it should and all samples but one were negative for bacteria. We are resampling the sites again to confirm the result, but please note it will take 24 hours to confirm whether it is a positive or false reading.
See restrictions and water boil notices for more info.
If you or anyone in your household experiences vomiting, diarrhoea, or fever, please contact your GP or Healthline (0800 611 116).
