The Alliance and Council's Involvement
NZTA programmed the Alliance contract to start on 1 July 2010
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) invited Council to be a member of the project Alliance set up to design and construct the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway. This is the first time that a council has been invited into an Alliance by NZTA. It is also the first time an Alliance is being formed prior to the designation being obtained.
Council's response to Alliance invitation
The Kāpiti Coast District Council passed resolutions on 25 February 2010 that it intended to work constructively with the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), and would be prepared to become a member of the Alliance proposed to design and build the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway. Councils membership would be dependant on a number of objectives being met.
Clarification on the process that NZTA will use on the expressway through Ōtaki was also sought before the Board makes a final decision on that process. Council considers it important that the Council, Ōtaki Community Board and the wider Ōtaki community have open and effective consultation processes in place.
Council will be careful to protect its ability to challenge any aspect of the design in the Board of Inquiry process, should that be necessary.
